Dygp Sept. 29 evening update: The latest on the coronavirus and Maine
Good morning from Augusta. QUOTE OF THE DAY: Ive missed out on a lot of things, said Jordan Merchant, a University of Maine Orono senior who was among the first Mainers under 50 to take advant air force 1 age of open eligibility yesterday. Im adidas campus 80s a cheerleader, and our season wasnt normal. I wont be having a normal graduation. Heres your soundtrack. What were watching todayThe governors race has not yet begun, but we are getting an idea of the early battles leading up to 2022. Maine is on a somewhat anticlimactic path to next years gubernatorial election. Democratic Gov. Janet Mills recently sent her first fundraising emails since 2019 as former Gov. Paul LePage who teased a return bid before he left office has first refusal on the Republican nomination to oppose Mills but has not yet formally entered the race despite saying in June he was 99.9 percent certain to do it.Such a race would be difficult for him. During his eight-year tenure, LePage topped out at a 47 percent approval rating in 2011, while Mills has been consistently above that mark during her tenure. She has fallen from 67 percent approval last spring on her coronavirus response to 52 percent by February in consistent polling from Northeastern, Harvard, Rutgers and Northwestern universities. All other governors saw slightly larger dips on average.National Republicans are locking onto the race. Recent emails fr yeezy mx om the Republican Governors Association hit Mills for her since-reversed plan to tax proceeds of Payc Tutb Connecticut woman killed in Solon snowmobile crash
The Bangor City Council voted 5-4 Monday night to keep the citys public bus hub in Pickering Square. That outcome stanley shop should at least partially settle a long-running debate about whether the Community Connectors terminal should remain in the square or whether its routes should converge somewhere else in the city. With the affirmative vote, city staff will now work to craft and construct a redesign of Pickering Square that moves the hub to the Water Street side of the square and separates it from the rest of the square with a landscaped buffer owala usa of vegetation. The preliminary plans call for a small building with a bathroom and waiting area thats staffed by an attendant, as well as an overhanging shelter. But the proposal has been divisive, drawing crowds of more than 100 people to each of the two City Council meetings at which it was discussed this month. On Monday night, supporters of the proposal waved yellow signs imploring councilors to Keep the Hub in the Square. air force one They have said that Pickering Square is the most central and accessible location for people who rely on public transportation to get around Greater Bangor, and two studies ordered by the city over the past six years have each identified Pickering Square as the best place for the hub.The supporters have also argued that the proposal to keep the hub in the square would bring other improvements to the area, including an estimated 7,000 square feet of new pedestrian space. Ive never been solely sold [that this is] the spot,

By Jacquelyne Germain, CNNAs Howard University students returned to campus on Monday for the start of the fall semester, the university received two bomb threats just stanley cana months after the school and other historically Black colleges and universities had to lock down or postpone classes because of si stanley cup milar threats. Early Friday morning, two on-campus residence halls that can house over 1,800 students, East and West Towers, were evacuated following an anonymous bomb threat at the Washington, DC, school. Students could be seen gathered in various locations near and around campus in their pajamas as they waited for an all-clear to return to their dorms. On Tuesday night, another residence hall, Cook Hall, was cleared due to a bomb threat received by phone. In both instances, students residing in the dorms were assigned to safe areas until an all-clear was announced a few hours after the initial threats. On Friday, police and university officials conducted a sweep of the dorms with K-9 units, according to CNN affiliate WUSA9. Preliminary information suggests that investigators have leads on the location of the originating call. Howard University said they ;ve been in contact with federal officials assigned to the investigation of similar threats made against HBCUs. According to a letter sent by Howard University president Wayne A.I. Frederick to students and staff on Friday, the most recent threat marks the eighth bomb threat of the year at the school, which he stanley es referred to

Srbz Paul LePage goes on attack in debate with Janet Mills as he trails in polls
WASHINGTON ?A New York tabloid puzzling account about how it acquired emails purportedly from Joe Biden son has raised some red flags. One of the biggest involves the source of the emails: Rudy Giuliani.Giuliani has traveled abroad looking for dirt on the Bidens, developing relationships with shadowy figures, including a Ukrainian lawmaker who U.S. officials have described as a Russian agent and part of a broader Russian effo air max plus rt to denigra adidas samba adidas te the Democratic presidential nominee.Yet Giuliani says foreign sources didn ;t provide the Hunter Biden emails. He says a laptop containing the emails and intimate photos was simply abandoned in stanley cup a Delaware repair shop and the shop owner reached out to Giuliani lawyer. That hasn ;t stopped the FBI from investigating whether the emails are part of a foreign influence operation. The emails have surfaced as U.S. officials have been warning that Russia, which backed Trump 2016 campaign through hacking of Democratic emails and a covert social media campaign, is interfering again this year. The latest episode with Giuliani underscores the risk he poses to a White House that spent years confronted by a federal investigation into whether Trump associates had coordinated with Russia. The Washington Post reported Thursday that intelligence agencies had warned the White House last year that Giuliani was the target of a Russian influence operation. The newspaper, citing four former officials, said that assessment Ykkq Health of Maine s unemployment system depends on how long coronavirus persists

By NOMAAN MERCHANTAssociated PressWASHINGTON AP ?U.S. officials released an intelligence report Friday that rejected some points raised by those who argue COVID-19 leaked from a Chinese lab, instead reiterating that American spy agencies remain divided over how the pandemic began. The report was issued at the behest of Congress, which in March passed a bill giving U.S. intelligence 90 days to declassify intelligence related to the Wuhan Institute of Virology. Intelligence officials under President Joe Biden have been pushed by lawmakers to release more material about the origins of COVID-19. But they have repeatedly argued China official obstruction of indepe stanley cup ndent reviews has made it perhaps impossible to determine how the pandemic began. The newest report angered some Republicans who have argued the administration is wrongly withholding classified information and researchers who accuse the U.S. of not being forthcoming. By Nathan VickersClick here for updates on this story LAWRENCE, Kansas KCTV Some new faces are settling in on the KU campus stone sculptures restored to their home at the top of the universitys Natural History Museum. As part of a renovation project at the building, erected in 1902, the university retired eight grotesques that had been severely damaged by more than a century of Kansas weather. In 2018 a team of artists and students began the process of recreating them.Lori Schlenker, the museums assistant director of collections and facilities, said the campus conducted a nationwide search for a sculptor up to the task. They found two local artists, Laura and Karl Ramberg, who had grown up walking by the building regularly. A team of students and faculty assisted on the project, too. The university used 3D scanning to create designs that matched the originals as accurately as possible. Both the sculpting and the scanning involved KU students, which was satisfying, Schlen stanley cup ker said. This week the Rambergs oversaw the installation of the finished grotesques. Cranes hoisted the new statues 60 ft. to the roof line to c stanley germany arefully place them before tuckpointing around the menagerie of stone animals and mythical beasts.
